Hector McDonnell is perhaps best known for his urban scenes, but he brings the same sense of immediacy to his landscape work. A painter with an omnivorous eye, he is drawn to the liveliness of any location and adept at capturing it when the light animates it most. The foreground hedgerows in profile are evidence of his considerable graphic skills - he is also a fine etcher.
