98 69 George Campbell (1917-1979) My Window, Zamora signed lower right and titled verso oil on canvas 61 x 51cm (24 x 20in) Provenance: David Hendriks Gallery, Dublin (label verso); Adams, Important Irish Art, 1st October 2008, Lot 24; Private Collection €6,000-8,000 (£5,309-7,079) George Campbell’s deep affinity with Spain and Spanish culture goes back to a chance meeting with some exiles from the Civil War he met in Dublin around 1946. From 1951 he visited Spain regularly. He became a good guitarist. Zamora, in northwest Spain is off his regular beat around Malaga, but this beautifully composed painting displays his mastery of his personal, quasi-Cubist idiom.
