They are variations on the basic format of his well-known gold paintings, elegantly symmetrical arrangements of simple geometric motifs, mainly circles and oblongs, against linen backgrounds. But in this series, it is as if he opens a window onto the world beyond, focusing on particular features as, here, a pristine blue sky.
