In the mid-1970s he and his wife Jane began to visit the Bahamas, where she had relations. O’Malley had survived TB and the climate there was good for his health. In fact, the warmth, light and colour had a dramatic effect on his work, introducing him to a much lighter palette and a new repertoire of pattern and texture. All of this is evident in this composition, a mellow reflection suffused with sun and ease.
