Morgan O'Driscoll Irish & International Art Auction 29th April 2019

92 70 Anthony Scott (b.1968) Bull signed and numbered 5/6 bronze - number 5 from an edition of 6 36 x 48 x 19cm (14.25 x 19 x 7.5in) Provenance: Private Collection €4,000-€6,000 ($4,494-$6,741) (£3,389-£5,084) Fermanagh-born sculptor Anthony Scott absorbed the rich tradition of animal imagery in The Tain and other mythic tales in his late teens. Inspired by a series of television programmes presented by Frank Delaney, he set off to visit the sites himself. But his sculptures are also grounded in the observation of animals at first hand - he grew up on a farm. At the heart of The Tain is C˙ Chualainn’s heroic bid to thwart the theft of the great stud bull Donn Cuailnge, and Scott has imbued his bull with monumental presence.
