138 122 Mary Lohan (b.1954) Morning Sea, Co Mayo signed, titled and dated 1999 on reverse oil on canvas - triptych 61 x 136.5cm (24 x 54in) Provenance: Private Collection €2,500-€3,500 (£2,232-£3,125) Mary Lohan’s first exhibitions included lush paintings inspired by her own garden, and the Phoenix Park. Then she found another vital ingredient, the sea, and that has preoccupied her since. The northwest and southeast coasts have been especially important. Donegal and, via the Ballinglen Arts Foundation, North Mayo, and the Wexford coastline all feature recurrently. In Morning Sea, it is as if the sea is waking from its slumber as the mist begins to lift, revealing vivid glimpses of land, water and sky.
