I rish & I nternational A rt M onday 12 th N ovember 2018 at 6.00 pm 117 101 Cecil Maguire RHA RUA (b.1930) Fair Day, Clifden signed lower right and titled on reverse oil on board 51 x 76.5cm (20 x 30in) Provenance: Acquired directly from the artist; Private Collection €8,000-€12,000 (£7,142-£10,714) Cecil Maguire was born in Lurgan in 1930 and graduated from the Queen’s University Belfast in 1951. He then took a post at Lur- gan College as the Senior English Master. In 1967 he became an associate of the Royal Ulster Academy. Maguire began exhibiting at the Royal Hibernian Academy in 1971. From 1982 to 1992 he exhibited at the Oriel Gallery in Dublin in a series of solo exhibi- tions. In 1981 he retired from teaching at Lurgan College to concentrate on painting and travelling. Maguire now lives and works for a great part of the year in Roundstone where he feels very much at home in an area which has always been the aspiration for much of his work, including this painting - an area of tranquillity and ever changing landscape.
